Michael Adel
Michael Adel is an Egyptian writer, poet, journalist, and filmmaker. He graduated from the Physiotherapy School, Cairo University in 2009. Besides his poetry and writing work which was first published in 2006, he has worked in the medical field after graduation for a while, until he decided to switch careers and follow his real passion; film. He studied filmmaking and obtained a feature film producer diploma from Hollywood Film Institute.
Michael’s Work
Michael has grew a high portfolio of work across poetry, writing, film and journalism for nearly two decades.
POETRY & WRITING
Michael’s first passion has always been writing. He started writing poetry since he was in high school an published his first Egyptian Arabic poetry book in 2006. He published another couple of poetry books including, “Song, Paper and Pen” and “Nazar/Vision” which won Sawiris Poetry Award in 2016. A new one is to be published by end of the year.
FILM
Combining his passion in writing and film, Michael has always wanted to tell compelling visual stories since he was a little kid. After working as a medic for a while, Michael has studied filmmaking and switching his career to film in 2020. He has written and directed shorts, feature films and a drama TV show. He also worked as an assistant director and a script doctor.
JOURNALISM
As a journalist, after getting a journalism training at Deutsche Welle Akademie, and along with his main job as a medic, he worked for several Egyptian, regional and international newspapers and news agencies including Youm 7, El Badil, Al Ahram Al Arabi, Al Akhbar, Lebanon, Assafir Al Arabi and Al Hurra TV.
